Students in the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business have access to one of the most powerful resources available for conducting and managing business research: The Investment Strategy Institute (ISI). Beyond instructional support, the ISI is used to perform analysis for investment decision making. The ISI operates with a full-time professional staff and continuously updated technology and operational infrastructure.

The Institute features a full classroom, 24 Bloomberg® terminals, and access to industry-leading software: Morningstar, WRDS, Compustat, CRSP, MSCI, StockTrak, and KLD.

Students have access to real-time data on worldwide stock, bond, futures, options, and currency markets. Each tool provides extensive historical data and current information to support investment research.

The Institute is home to the following dedicated learning and research spaces:

  • David and Kimberly Warco Conference Room
  • Carl V. Lind Investment Strategy Manager’s Office
  • The Coury Firm Investment Strategy Research Room

Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)

The goal of the ISI is to support students' personal growth and enhance their career opportunities.

A prominent aspect of the ISI the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) Program in which students manage approximately $1.5 million in assets. Utilizing the ISI’s Bloomberg® terminals, students make investment decisions for the Duquesne Values Fund (DVF), the Duquesne Microcap Fund (DMF) and the Duquesne Balanced Fund (DBF) while learning about investments and financial markets.

These experiences are set in both curricular and co-curricular activities and include guest speakers, participation in investment competitions, financial support for travel to conferences and financial support for extra-curricular licensing and credentialing.
