Each year, CTE provides in-person, hybrid, and/or asynchronous virtual orientations for new faculty (both full-time and part-time) and graduate students with teaching responsibilities. The asynchronous orientations can be accessed by contacting CTE. Prior to the orientation, new instructors are encouraged to visit , a resource with logistics about teaching at Duquesne.
Fall 2024 Full-time and Part-time Faculty Orientation
Full-time faculty orientation will take place on August 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Fisher Hall 719.
Part-time faculty orientation will take place on August 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Union 613.
Email invitations will be sent out in July, but if you have questions or do not receive an invitation, please email CTE.
Co-sponsored events for graduate students
International Teaching Assistant programming (for graduate students from all departments who come from outside the USA) is co-sponsored by the Global English Institute (GEI) and CTE.
Programming for international graduate students with teaching responsibilities may include
- discussion of the culture of college teaching in the USA
- guidance on preparing for the TEACH test that is required of all nonnative speakers of English. about this requirement.

- The orientation for graduate students with teaching responsibilities will be held one week prior to the start of classes in a hybrid format, with an in-person session held on August 21. Invitations are sent under the direction of departments and will contain relevant time and location information.

*Attendance at graduate teaching assistant orientations is required by the Provost for incoming GAs with teaching responsibilities. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, tutoring, grading and giving feedback on learning, providing lab instruction, teaching online, interacting through Canvas, holding office hours or study sessions, and guest lecturing on more than a single occasion.
