Internships

Our internship program allows you to obtain national and international positions in media design, video production, social media, public relations, advertising, visual and interface design and user experience (UX) design.

We have numerous corporate and nonprofit sponsors in the Pittsburgh area who have placed students in internships in New York and Los Angeles. In addition to the internship program, the department has significant on-campus organizations that provide excellent networking opportunities.

If approved, Media internships can count toward college credit. Recent internship placements include:

  • Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Pittsburgh magazine
  • Elias/Savion Advertising
  • Brunner
  • American Eagle Outfitters
  • Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, Pirates and Riverhounds
  • All four network affiliate broadcasting stations: ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX

Digital Experience & Prototyping Lab

The is a state-of-the-art facility available to any media student interested in studying user experience. The testing area has three user workstations, two of which are equipped with Morae software and cameras for usability testing. The third workstation is equipped with Noldus Video Observer XT observation/analysis software. 

We also have a room dedicated to small meetings or focus groups, equipped with video cameras and microphones to record verbal and nonverbal communication. 

Student Clubs & Organizations

Ad Club provides you with the opportunity to participate in national advertising competitions and networking opportunities with advertising professionals who are actively involved in discussions of major issues in the rapidly evolving advertising and marketing industries.
Duquesne Student TV is Duquesne's independent programming network. Students produce news, sports and game shows and informational programs. There is no experience required to participate. Each meeting contains training sessions, collaboration and preproduction and postproduction work.
 focuses on the Pittsburgh Neighborhoods Project. Our student-written, edited, designed and produced magazine explores Pittsburgh's rich and varied neighborhoods.

The  is open to all undergraduates from all schools within the university. Students collaborate in weekly meetings and create, develop and implement an actual public relations campaign for a local nonprofit organization.

In addition, PRSSA sponsors networking opportunities in the form of talks and roundtable discussions led by Pittsburgh's top public relations professionals. Get your work seen and heard while building your portfolio!
The Society of Professional Journalists is the nation's oldest journalism organization. Dedicated to improving and protecting journalism, our SPJ chapter holds regular meetings, organizes travel to journalism conferences, holds workshops and hosts speakers such as ESPN's John Clayton (a Duquesne media alumnus) and CNN's Lisa Burns as well as a variety of local reporters, editors and designers. 
is Â鶹ֱ²¥'s student-run and student-operated radio/podcast station. WDSR is open to all Duquesne students looking to gain valuable experience in radio broadcasting and broadcasting systems.

Our production studio is in College Hall, and we are live 24/7. Our mission is to provide quality programming that is entertaining and informative while reflecting the lifestyle of Â鶹ֱ²¥ students.
