Admissions Timeline

Duquesne Medical School DO candidates are selected on a rolling admissions basis and are based on academic merit, professional experience and commitment to our mission of caring for all people in all communities to reduce healthcare disparities. Here are some key dates to keep in mind:

May to Dec

Application process open. Submit Your Primary Application via AACOM (non-refundable fee required).

EDT ONLY: Jul 1 & Aug 15

DUQCOM Early Admissions Decision Track (EDT) Primary Application (non-refundable fee required) and supporting documents due by July 1; Secondary Application due by August 15.

May to Dec

Secondary Application invitations sent by DUQCOM via email to select DO candidates. Please submit your Secondary Application as soon as possible to continue your journey ($65 non-refundable fee required). (EDT Secondary Applications due by August 15.)

Jul to Apr

DUQCOM scheduled interviews are conducted in-person or virtually to select DO candidates. Invitations to interview will be sent by DUQCOM via email.

Nov

Early Admission Decision Track process completed and all candidates notified.

Jul to Apr

Accepted DO candidates must submit deposit of $1,500 (non-refundable non-refundable) to secure a seat in the upcoming Duquesne DUQCOM class. (EDT deposits due by Dec 1)

May 1

DUQCOM enrollment cycle for the upcoming academic calendar year ends May 1st prior to the academic year beginning in July.

Admissions Process & Requirements

Primary Application Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Â鶹ֱ²¥ College of Medicine’s DO program, all candidates must apply through AACOM and meet the following Primary Application Requirements*:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
  • Must be able to earn a baccalaureate degree before matriculation
  • Must have completed 90 hours or three-fourths of the required credits for a baccalaureate degree and have completed the required prerequisites
  • Must achieve a minimum 3.2 GPAs for science and overall on a 4.0 scale
  • Must achieve a minimum MCAT score of 500
  • Must submit official MCAT transcripts with date of completion (within three years or less of the intended matriculation date) 
  • Must carefully read the DUQCOM Health and Technical Standards and affirm that standards have been met
  • Must be proficient in data entry to complete time-specific assignments and assessments
  • Must have successfully completed the following prerequisite courses:
    • Biological Sciences: 8 credit hours 
    • Physics: 8 credit hours
    • General and/or Inorganic Chemistry: 8 credit hours 
    • Organic Chemistry: 8 credit hours (Biochemistry may substitute for 4 credit hours of Organic Chemistry) 
    • English and/or Composition: 6 credit hours
    • Recommended: a minimum of 6 additional biomedical science credit hours at the 200 level or above in, but are not limited to, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology and genetics.

*Submit all Early Decision Admissions Track Primary Applications and supporting materials by July 1 for consideration.

Secondary Application Requirements

Select DO candidates who meet all of the Primary Application requirements and submitted all materials may be invited to take the next step and submit the following supporting materials:

  • DUQCOM Secondary Application*
  • Non-refundable processing fee of $65 is required 
  • Waiver OR Non-waiver statement regarding letters of recommendation
  • Minimum of three required letters of recommendation, including:
    • One letter must be from the pre-medical or health-professions advisory committee, if the undergraduate institution has this committee. 
    • Other letters should be from a physician (DO or MD), science faculty and other undergraduate or graduate faculty who have taught the applicant in class. 

*Designate Early Decision Admissions Track on your Secondary Application and submit by August 15 for consideration.

Interviews: In-Person & Virtual

Select DO candidates who meet the Primary and Secondary Application Requirements and have submitted all supporting materials will be reviewed to determine eligibility for interviews with the DUQCOM admissions team and faculty. Invitations to interview will be sent by DUQCOM via email.

Candidates may be invited to interview:

  • In-Person Interview – Conducted for all applicants within a 4-hour drivetime of Â鶹ֱ²¥â€™s campus in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Virtual Interview – Conducted via phone or Zoom/Teams outside a 4-hour drivetime from Duquesne’s campus.

Deposit Deadlines

Final applicants who are accepted to the program must submit a nonrefundable deposit of $1,500 to secure a seat in the upcoming Duquesne DUQCOM class using the following schedule: 

  • July 26 thru September 1 - Accepted applicants must pay their deposit by October 1* 
  • September 2 thru December 1 - Accepted applicants have 30 days from the date of acceptance to pay their deposit.
  • December 2 thru February 1 - Accepted applicants have 14 days from the date of acceptance to pay their deposit.
  • After February 2 - Accepted applicants must pay deposits immediately.

*Accepted Early Decision Admissions Track applicants must submit their deposit by December 1 to be fully admitted to the program.

Early Decision Admissions Track (EDT) Process & Timeline

The Early Decision Admissions Track (EDT) is an admissions option if you identify Â鶹ֱ²¥ College of Medical as your first and only choice for pursuing a DO medical education and withhold all applications to other medical schools until you are notified by the DUQCOM admissions team about early decision.

EDT candidates must also have a science and overall GPAs of 3.5 or higher and a competitive MCAT score, as compared to other applicants in the same application cycle.

Timeline for EDT Candidates

  • July 1 – Due date for Primary Application via AACOM (non-refundable fee required) and all supporting documents including:
    • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
    • Official MCAT transcripts with date of completion (within three years or less of the intended matriculation date)
    • A letter of intent to the DUQCOM Office of Admissions indicating that Â鶹ֱ²¥ Medical School is your first choice for medical school and requesting a review for the Early Decision Admissions Track
  • August 15 – Due date for Secondary Application ($65 non-refundable fee required) with designation as Early Decision Admissions candidate and all supporting documents including a minimum of three required letters of recommendation:
    • One letter must be from the pre-medical or health-professions advisory committee, if the undergraduate institution has this committee.
    • Other letters should be from a physician (DO or MD), science faculty and other undergraduate or graduate faculty who have taught the applicant in class.
  • July to November – EDT candidates contacted for scheduled interviews conducted in-person or virtually
  • November – EDT admissions process complete and candidates notified
  • December 1 – Deposit due of $1,500 for accepted EDT candidates to secure seat for upcoming academic year (non-refundable)
