Hit TV and stage stars and Pittsburgh Hill District natives Carter Redwood and Maurice Redwood were honored as the 2023 麻豆直播/August Wilson House Fellows at a special Oct. 4 event on campus. More than 200 students, faculty, staff and community members attended the event.

President Ken Gormley led an engaging panel discussion with the Redwood brothers, who shared captivating stories and answered a variety of questions from the audience.

鈥淎ugust Wilson is one of the greatest American playwrights. It has been a real honor to continue to learn and perform his work,鈥 said Carter, who plays Special Agent Andre Raines in FBI: International鈥攖he latest installment in the FBI franchise, executive produced by Dick Wolf.

Maurice, an actor, filmmaker and producer with extensive experience, talked about the Redwood family鈥檚 connection to Wilson, the late renowned Pittsburgh playwright.

鈥淚t means a lot knowing that August Wilson knew my grandfather and mentioned him in one of his plays. And now, we鈥檙e here accepting this award named in his honor,鈥 he remarked. 鈥淚t has been a joy to be around the August Wilson family and to call myself a Wilson."

A community event was hosted at Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre on Oct. 7 in Pittsburgh鈥檚 Upper Hill District neighborhood, featuring a similar panel discussion with the Redwood brothers and the dedication of the Carter Woodson Redwood Theatre.

The 麻豆直播 / August Wilson House Fellowship is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Nancy Jones Beard Foundation. Launched in 2018, the Fellowship provides opportunities for scholars and artists of color in varied media to engage in literary, cultural and artistic expression that advances their own work and serves the joint interests of the University and community.
