Biography
Tyrone Carr serves as the inaugural director of Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Â鶹ֱ²¥ College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has spent his entire career advocating for students in higher education while working in student affairs, enrollment management, diversity and inclusion, and alumni services.
For 17 years, Tyrone worked at Ohio University (OU) College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2007, he was appointed to serve as the executive director of The Interlink Alliance, an educational consortium between Ohio University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and eight HBCUs. Tyrone did this while serving as special assistant to the Vice President of Diversity Equity and Inclusion. His last role at OU was interim director of the LGBT Center and director of alumni diversity initiatives in the Ohio University Alumni Association. One of Tyrone’s many accomplishments at OU includes directing the largest Black Alumni Reunion (BAR). In 2023, Ohio University bestowed upon Tyrone the Outstanding Administrator Award.
Born in Antigua, West Indies, and grew up in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Tyrone holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland.
He is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the current chair of the Kennedy Museum of Art Advisory Board. His passion for supporting the community is reflected in the numerous boards he has served on which include but are not limited to Factory Street Dance Studio, Ohio Valley Summer Theater, Appalachian Development Federal Credit Union, Ohio University Diversity Alumni Advisory Board, Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardian Ad Litem, and Stuart’s Opera House.
Tyrone was awarded the Men of Black Excellence and Citizen of the Year award by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the United Campus Ministries, Social Justice Award, the Outstanding Advisor Student National Medical Association award, and the Man of the Millennial award given by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Tyrone is a champion of nurturing a culture of diversity for all people and speaks at conferences and academic institutions on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
