Biography

Dr. Susan Kelly is a Clinical Associate Professor and is the Director of Undergraduate Adjunct Faculty and Clinical Affairs for the School of Nursing. Dr. Kelly joined the School of Nursing faculty in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022.

Dr. Kelly has an extensive background teaching didactic and clinical instruction. She has taught across the undergraduate curriculum in areas such as Pathophysiology, Adult Health & Illness, Gerontological, and Leadership and Management. Dr. Kelly is also involved in collaborating, facilitating and teaching courses to prepare students for all levels of standardized testing and in preparation for the National Council of State Boards Licensing Exam (NCLEX), and she has conducted various workshops on NCLEX Test Taking Strategies.

Dr. Kelly's role as the Director of Adjunct Clinical Faculty and Clinical Affairs has allowed her to work with new adjunct faculty to mentor and educate them in the clinical teaching role. Dr. Kelly is an integral member of the Simulation Task Force for the School of Nursing, which has worked to integrate simulation into all nursing courses. She assisted in the development of simulation-based education and has published and presented this work at national and local levels.

Dr. Kelly is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), as well as a Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse (CMSRN). Dr. Kelly is an alum of the National League of Nursing (NLN) Leadership Development Program for Simulation Leaders, which allowed her to develop simulation programs across the undergraduate curriculum. Dr. Kelly's service includes her role on the Interprofessional Development Committee (IPEC) for the university.  The committee includes all health sciences and pharmacy to work collaboratively with students from all health disciplines.

Dr. Kelly received the 2020 faculty award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Kelly's work with students on the remediation process and successfully preparing students for standardized exams was a contributing factor in her receiving this award. Dr. Kelly received the Rita M. Carty Faculty Leadership Award for the 2018 academic year, allowing her to disseminate research on professionalism and the hidden curriculum in healthcare organizations.

Dr. Kelly's role as the Director of Adjunct Clinical Faculty and Clinical Affairs has allowed her to work with new adjunct faculty to mentor and educate them in the clinical teaching role.  Dr. Kelly collaborates with educational leadership at the major health systems to ensure quality clinical education for the undergraduate students.

2017 – 2020 Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation grant with Drexel University.
