Biography

Peter Wildfong is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics, and has been on the faculty at Â鶹ֱ²¥ since 2004. He received an Hons. B.Sc. (1998) in Biochemistry from McMaster University and a Ph.D. (2004) in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, with a graduate certificate in Materials Engineering (2004) from Purdue University. His research focus is heavily oriented towards pharmaceutical materials science, where current projects seek to better understand how specific physico-chemical and structural properties of pharmaceutically relevant materials impact both large-scale manufacturing and final dosage form performance.

Education

Ph.D., Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, Purdue University
Dip.Pharm., R&D Toronto Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology, 1998
Hons. B.Sc. Biochemistry, McMaster University

Profile Information

Ongoing research is centered on 1) developing materials informatics models that will allow prediction of mechanically activated solid state phase transformations of APIs and excipients, through the investigation of mitigating factors in high-shear induction of polymorphism and disordering; 2) solubilization of poorly water soluble API through preparation of binary amorphous solid dispersions, as well as predictions regarding the formation and stability of these materials.  In support of these topics, the lab also works to advance the use of solid state characterization techniques including powder X-ray diffractometry, calorimetry, microscopy, and thermogravimitry.
