Biography

Dr. Michael Neft is from Pittsburgh, PA. He has a diploma in nursing from Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and a BSN from LaRoche College. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps in 1985, he was called to active duty in 1986. Dr. Neft was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel, retiring from active duty in 2006. While in the Army, he served in a variety of clinical, educational, and administrative assignments. Dr. Neft earned two graduate degrees while on active duty, one in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University and the other in Anesthesia Nursing from the University of Texas. He earned his Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Chatham University and a PhD at Duquesne.

Dr. Neft served as Vice Chair, Department of Nurse Anesthesia and Assistant Director-Nurse Anesthesia Program, University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the University's Faculty Assembly and Senate Council. He also served as a pro-tem member of the Senate Educational Policies Committee and as a member of the Senate Policy and Bylaws Committee. Dr. Neft also served as chair of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' Practice Committee, and its Health and Wellness Committee. He has served on the Programs and Membership Committees of the National Academies of Practice.

Dr. Neft is Past-President, Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and has served on the Sigma Theta Tau International, Region 11 Coordinating Committee. He is past chair of the Psychiatric, Mental Health and Substance Use Expert Panel of the American Academy of Nursing; he continues to serve on that expert panel as a member. He is also a member of the American Academy of Nursing's Acute and Critical Care Expert Panel. Dr. Neft was inducted as a Fellow in the National Academies of Practice (FNAP) in 2015, a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in October, 2016, and as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FAANA) in its inaugural class in 2021.

Dr. Neft joined the faculty of the 麻豆直播 School of Nursing in August 2022, as a Clinical Professor to work primarily in the Nurse Anesthesia Program. His research interests are health care professionals as second victims, substance use disorders in health care providers, the use of SBIRT, and intraoperative recall. Dr. Neft has been heavily involved in supervising quality improvement projects by Doctor of Nursing Practice students. He has spoken at multiple conferences, local to international, on topics such as chemical dependency in nurses, SBIRT, airway management and basic ultrasound techniques, debriefing techniques in simulation education and intergenerational communication.
