Biography

Dr. Emily Sylvester attained her B.S. in Chemistry from Georgetown University. There, she did groundbreaking research on chiral HPLC and enantioselective hetero-Diels-Alder reactions. Later, at Cornell University, she focused on studying first-row transition metal complexes with aryl-based chelating ligands as part of the Wolczanski group.

After Cornell, Dr. Sylvester taught at different schools before joining Â鶹ֱ²¥ in 2019. At Duquesne, she's enjoyed teaching a wide range of students, from chemistry grad students to non-science majors. Her main job is teaching organic chemistry I and II to non-chemistry majors and organizing the organic chemistry lab sessions.
