Biography

Dr. Healey oversees the university research, intellectual property, technology transfer and enterprise creation, research integrity and compliance, as well as the research relationships with the federal government with the goal of enhancing the societal impact of the university's innovative research. Dr. Healey also teaches Environmental Chemistry at the School of Science and Engineering and Patent Law, Commercial Use of IP and Patent Drafting at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law.

Dr. Healey is an inventor, patent holder, registered U.S. patent attorney, chemist, and published author with extensive knowledge of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and in intellectual property law. She helped as a scientist and shareholder lead a new venture enterprise from concept idea to sustained revenue within the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse innovation ecosystem. As a patent practitioner for over a decade, she has counseled clients on a wide range of intellectual property matters and patent law issues. Dr. Healey has also prepared and prosecuted thousands of patent applications, managed numerous patent portfolios, provided hundreds of opinions and assessments on patent infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate, and patentability. She has also helped many intellectual property owners with due diligence issues, licensing strategies, and technology evaluation in support of product development, acquisition and launch.

Additionally, Dr. Healey's experience in the private sector at a large international chemical company and domestic pharmaceutical start-up, in the educational field, and as an inventor gave her a unique insight at the intersection of science, technology, and intellectual property, stemming from an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of the innovation processes in a wide range of state-of-the-art technologies.  

Dr. Healey is fluent in French, author or co-author of over 20 scientific articles in high impact factor journals and co-author of a book in the field of supramolecular chemistry. She was highlighted in Science and has served as a peer reviewer for Organometallics, an ACS journal.
