Ann L. Schiavone is associate dean of academic affairs and associate professor of law at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Â鶹ֱ²¥. Upon returning to her alma mater in 2013 as a member of the faculty, she has taught a variety of courses at the law school including Legal Research and Writing I & II, Conflicts of Laws, Pennsylvania Legislative Process, Animal Law, and will be teaching a section of Constitutional Law beginning in the fall of 2020.

Schiavone has focused much of her scholarly work in the area of Animal Law and the intersection of animal law and human rights. Her most recent publication poses timely questions regarding the reasonableness of police "use of force" with police dogs. She has also published several articles on the efficacy and constitutionality of breed-specific canine ordinances.

Prior to joining Duquesne Kline's faculty, she was a member of Akron University Law faculty and taught varied courses including Legal Analysis Research and Writing I and II, Legislative Drafting, and seminars in Sexual Orientation and the Law and Animal Law. She also chaired the Admissions Committee at Akron.

Schiavone received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Â鶹ֱ²¥, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. Vincent College where she was awarded the President's Award, the highest student honor. After earning her law degree, Schiavone was an associate litigation attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP (now K&L Gates) and Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC.

While earning her law degree, she served as the legislative assistant in the Pennsylvania State Senate and House of Representatives. Her work in the Pennsylvania legislature gives her a unique perspective on the lawmaking process which she has brought to the classroom.

Schiavone is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, and is active in supporting animal rescues and conservation charities. She lives with her husband, 2-year old son, and three dogs in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. In her free time, she is an avid equestrian and an amateur genealogist.
